Our latest Pocket building on Western Road in the heart of Southall is complete with Pocket owners settled in and enjoying their homes. I am sure you will agree that this is one handsome building!  There are 36 one bedroom homes at Western Road UB2, all sold for £165,000 and designed for us by the architectural practice JTP.

JTP are an international award-winning practice, better-known for large scale place-making projects, and this is the first Pocket development they helped us create.  Ian Fenn, partner at JTP, commented: “The team really enjoyed the focus on thoughtful, responsive design advocated by Pocket and the desire to create high quality places with attractive homes.”

The building fronts onto Western Road with a classic brick facade, responding to the existing street scene.  Ian adds: “We chose materials which are robust and will stand the test of time, and of course are appropriate for the location. A motif reflected in the balustrades and front entrance of the building emanates from a detail used on a local church.”

Behind the building are very generous gardens, including allotments and seating areas, as well as quieter planted areas, which allow residents to relax and get to know their neighbours.  There are also bat and bird boxes to encourage existing wildlife to return to the new building.  Large windows allow the homes to be bathed in natural daylight, and give some homes lovely views across the gardens below.

Inside Western Road UB2 there are simple circulation spaces to keep service charges low, brightened by splashes of colour and bold signage.

No wonder this scheme sold out quickly! We are looking forward to working with Ealing Council on our next schemes in the borough.  Thanks to Ian Fenn for his contribution to this blog, and to Sarah J Duncan for her striking photography.
