Pocket was delighted that Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham and Lewisham Housing Chief Cllr Damien Egan kicked off the construction of 26 affordable Pocket homes yesterday for local people in Lewisham.
The sought after site on Marischal Road, just five minutes from Lewisham station, will provide 25 new one bedroom homes and one two bedroom home for sale. The new homes will be available to Lewisham people earning less than £54,500 who are priced out of the property market and salaried out of social housing. These will be the first Pocket homes in Lewisham and will be ready towards the end of next year. We are already planning to start building our next development on Arklow Road in New Cross in the New Year.
The Council say they need 1,144 new affordable homes every year. Pocket is going to work closely with the Mayor and Council to help even more local people to get on the property ladder.
Mayor of Lewisham, Sir Steve Bullock said:
“It was a pleasure to start the construction of this affordable housing for local people. These new homes at Marischal Road show how Lewisham Council is working with innovative developers like Pocket to deliver a wide range of different home ownership options. We need a good mix of all tenures to ensure Lewisham continues to be a place where people want to and can afford to live. This innovative Pocket development will provide great homes for local people on low and middle incomes who want to own their own home.”
Councillor Damien Egan added:
“It’s fantastic to see this exciting development getting underway. It marks a significant milestone in Lewisham’s work to provide affordable homes for local people. We will continue to be innovative as we look for solutions to respond to the housing crisis so that Lewisham residents have the opportunity to live in quality homes they can afford. Pocket is helping us to deliver real starter homes in Lewisham.”
